    The intersection of 32 Street and Crystal Shores Road in Okotoks will be impacted by construction work starting October 22, 2026, and lasting until October 27, 2026. The project involves a developer-led connection of the sanitary trunk main, installation of a new manhole, and paving back to the existing roadway.

    • Major delays and large impacts to multiple directions of travel through the intersection are expected.
    • No southbound access on 32 Street at Crystal Shores Road, no left turn onto Crystal Green Way, no left turn onto Crystal Shores Road via northbound 32 Street, and no westbound access to Crystal Shores Road via Crystal Green Way will be in place.
    • Alternate routes should be followed, and digital message boards, traffic-control measures, and construction signage will guide motorists and pedestrians through the area.
    • Reduced speeds will be in effect near the construction area, and traffic and pedestrian detours may remain in place 24 hours a day, as required, throughout construction.

    Construction crews, heavy equipment, and increased noise during working hours can be expected. Temporary traffic pattern changes and pedestrian detours will be in place throughout the work area, and flag people will help with traffic flow.

    The work is required to extend the existing sanitary trunk main and connect the first phase of the Ridgemont subdivision to existing Town sanitary service.

    The Town of Okotoks has announced that site servicing work will take place at the Community Campus site on October 16 and 17, 2026. The work will involve shallow utility locates with a hydrovac truck and survey crew at the intersection of 32nd Street and 338 Avenue, as well as a small amount of work at the 32nd Street and Holy Trinity Academy access intersection.

    During the work, 32nd Street and 338 Avenue will remain open, but traffic delays are expected, particularly during peak travel times. Reduced speeds will be in effect near the construction area, and traffic control measures and construction signage will guide motorists through the area.

  • Northridge Drive construction in Okotoks to wrap up next Wednesday

    It's time to "pave" the way for smoother commutes in Okotoks!

    Upgrades on Northridge Drive in Okotoks are nearing completion, with crews working to finish the project by next Wednesday, October 14. The work, part of the Northridge Drive Urbanization project for Anthem United, involves concrete and asphalt work between Banister Gate and 338 Avenue.

    The Town of Okotoks has outlined a five-phase plan for the work, with lane closures and traffic patterns changing as crews move from one phase to the next. Drivers are advised to watch for changing signs, lane shifts, and detours throughout the project area and to allow extra travel time.

    Additionally, a pathway closure will be in place on the west side of Northridge Drive at the D’Arcy Heights rental complex, starting Monday, October 12, until the end of the month. This closure will affect north-south pedestrian traffic as crews work on an emergency access road to Northridge Drive from the parking lot.

    Residents may also want to be aware that 32 Street, another main roadway to leave town heading north, is also under construction. Utility work along the east side of 32 Street and Crystal Green Lane began in August and is expected to wrap up next Wednesday, October 14. While 32 Street remains open to traffic, pedestrian detours are in place for access to Holy Trinity Academy.

  • Okotoks to Receive Final Water Pipe Installations by 2027

    It's a pipe dream come true for Okotoks residents, who will soon have a reliable water supply.

    Foothills County is making significant progress on the Foothills Okotoks Regional Water Project, with the final section of pipe installation set to begin this week. The county’s portion of the project, Pipe D, will connect to the existing water main infrastructure and continue south to the Aldersyde Raw Water Reservoir, where the water will be treated at the new water treatment plant.

    The main pipe installation is scheduled to be completed by January 25, 2027, with localized finishing and landscape rehabilitation work taking place in April and expected to be completed by May 3, 2027. The raw water reservoir will provide water storage for emergency situations and allow water to be available during seasonal variations in river flows.

    A midline pump station on site will boost water in the pipeline to reach both municipal treatment facilities and maintain water quality in the reservoir. As of April, 25 kilometres of watermain had been laid from the raw water intake and intake pump station at the Bow River, bringing the start of interim seasonal water delivery to Okotoks.

    In June, a ceremonial valve turning was held to celebrate the milestone, attended by representatives from the Town of Okotoks, county, regional, and provincial leaders. The project aims to provide a reliable water supply to Okotoks and surrounding areas.

  • Okotoks residents rally to save Dr. Lander Memorial Pool

    It's time to dive into the conversation about the pool's future.

    A community meeting is planned in Okotoks to discuss the future of the Dr. Lander Memorial Pool, a facility that has been a staple in the community for over 60 years. The meeting, organized by community members, is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 8, at 7 p.m. at the Griffiths Memorial Centre.

    The group aims to explore options for keeping the pool open until alternative recreational facilities are available. Potential solutions could include community support with maintenance and staffing, corporate and community sponsorships, as well as events and family activities aimed at increasing revenue.

    The Town of Okotoks has previously raised concerns about the long-term viability of the facility, citing operational and financial challenges, significant capital costs, and possible tax implications. Mayor Brendan Kelly noted that the pool’s aging infrastructure and the end of the current operating arrangement with the Town of Okotoks make it unlikely that the pool will continue to operate beyond 2026.

    However, the Diamond Valley Community Association has started planning work on the future of recreation in Diamond Valley, including funding and grant opportunities. Residents are encouraged to get involved with the association to contribute to the discussion.

    The Town of Okotoks will revisit the future of the Dr. Lander Memorial Pool as part of the 2027 budget process, with budget meetings scheduled for Nov. 4 and 18.

  • Fisher Place Detour in Okotoks to Continue Until October 6

    It's a "pipe" dream come true for Okotoks businesses to have access to the town's underground infrastructure!

    A detour is in place on Fisher Place in Okotoks until October 6, 2026, as crews work to connect a new business development to the town’s underground water, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer infrastructure.

    The detour, which started on September 10, 2026, is in effect 24 hours a day, with construction taking place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays and Saturdays. A temporary recycled asphalt detour road has been installed to minimize dust and maintain vehicle access.

    • Minor traffic delays and temporary changes to traffic patterns can be expected in the immediate area.

The project, part of the River's Edge Infrastructure Improvements project, aims to improve long-term reliability, increase capacity, and support future growth in the area.

    The construction will occur in two stages. Stage 1, which began on September 28, involves installing a new deep watermain along South Railway Street at the intersection of Lineham Avenue. This stage is expected to be completed by October 13, weather permitting.

    During Stage 1, the westbound lane of South Railway Street will be closed, as will the Lineham Avenue and South Railway Street intersection. However, access to East Lineham, Summit West School, nearby properties, and the river valley pathway system will be maintained through temporary access routes and signed detours.

    Stage 2, which will start on October 14 and progress into early November, will see crews install a new deep sanitary sewer. Work will start near the Lineham Avenue intersection and progress west along South Railway Street. During this time, through traffic from Lineham Avenue will reopen, as will South Railway Street to eastbound traffic.

    It’s worth noting that Riverside Drive remains closed between Veterans Way and the Okotoks United Church as part of the same project. Work on sanitary sewer replacement and upsizing, roadway improvements, and new on-street parking has been underway since last August and will continue through late October.

    Motorists should expect temporary detours, lane closures, and parking restrictions throughout the construction period. The project team will maintain access for residents, businesses, school traffic, and pedestrians throughout construction.
