"Art on the lawn" is a "growing" success!
The Okotoks Art Gallery marked a significant milestone in its history, celebrating 45 years of showcasing local and regional art with an outdoor market and the opening of two new exhibits.
The gallery’s outdoor market, Art on the Lawn, brought together local artists and vendors on September 19, offering a unique shopping experience for attendees. The event ran from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and featured a variety of art pieces, including felted creations by Esther Neufeld and watercolour, acrylic, and pastel portraits of animals by Renee Carrier.
Inside the gallery, two new exhibits were unveiled to the public. The Elementals: A Celebration of the Women of Creation by Esther Neufeld explores womanhood, creation, and the natural elements of earth, wind, fire, and water through felted work. The exhibit features life-sized figures, each with its own unique tale of womanhood.
Meanwhile, Won’t You Be My Neighbour? by painter Ashley Thimot focuses on neighbourhood landscapes and the beauty found in everyday surroundings. Thimot’s work aims to celebrate the neighbourhoods she visits every day and show the beauty within them.
Both artists were in attendance during the afternoon reception, which ran from 1 to 3 p.m. The exhibits will remain on display at the Okotoks Art Gallery until November 6.
