It looks like the artists were able to "brush" up on their skills!
Five local artists gathered in downtown Okotoks to test their skills and creativity during the second annual Foothills Paint-Off, part of Alberta Culture Days.
The event featured Christine Walker, Russell Thomas, Virgini Senden, Janifer Calvez, and ARTrophy, all of whom were given the same local landscape reference photo and three hours to create their own unique interpretation of the scene.
High River-based artist Russell Thomas, who participated in the event, noted that one of the most interesting aspects was seeing how each artist uniquely interpreted the same image.
“You have five very established artists painting the exact same reference photo at the same time in the same place, but as you walk around, everybody’s unique voice is shining through,” Thomas said.
Spectators were able to walk through the plaza and engage with the artists, sharing their feedback and asking questions throughout the afternoon.
The event ran from noon to 3 p.m., and the finished paintings will be displayed as part of the upcoming Vibrant Community exhibit at Fig Studio Arts in Okotoks.
